Sun’s out. Grass is growing. The trees have blossoms again, and the tree frogs are singing. Spring’s here. Spring-quarter tutoring has begun, and we’re ready to help. Look us up the Student Learning Center online at https://northseattle.edu/tutoring, where you can connect with us online. Or you can stop by and see us at the Health Sciences and Student Resources Building (HSSR) We can help you be a successful student.

Once again, we have plenty of help to offer, including face-to-face tutoring assistance and two in-person English workshops.

We’re open most days of the week with free tutoring for registered students. We’ll help with language, math, science, business, computer science, accounting and business courses and other subjects. Online tutoring are available for health and convenience reasons. But biology and chemistry tutoring are again in person, and both our on-campus English and math/science tutoring centers are open so you can also get tutoring in person in those locations. The math/science and writing tutoring center on campus are on the first floor of the HSSR, while the biology and chemistry tutoring center is on the second floor.

Face-to-face tutoring are offered four days a week at both the Math and Science Center and and the Page One Center. Math/science sessions are in Room 1639 of HSSR, while in-person tutoring for English is in Room 1634. Face-to-face tutoring for biology and chemistry is offered six days a week in Room 2642-A. No online tutoring is offered for biology or chemistry, but it is available for other subjects.

Here are fall opening dates and daily hours for each tutoring center:

ACCOUNTING, BUSINESS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, and ECONOMICS

The Professional and Technical Learning Center offers tutoring for accounting, business, economics, information technology, business statistics, Excel and Microsoft Office.

The center opened for spring quarter at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 8, and will operate until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12. Once again, the center offers online tutoring only through the college canvas page, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. The center is closed Friday and Saturday.

BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY

Tutoring for biology, chemistry and anatomy and physiology also startedApril 8 and will be available through June 14. It will be in-person only in Room 2642-A of the HSSR, on the second floor.

Hours are from 1:50 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 12:20 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. Saturday, and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. The center is closed Friday.

MATH and SCIENCE

The Math & Science Learning Center provides tutoring for pre-college and 100 level math, computer science, and biology, and physics.

The center also opened for the quarter on April 8 and will continue until June 12.
Hours for in-person tutoring are from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, in Room 1639 of the HSSR Building.
Online tutoring is available from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 12:00 p.m. to 6 :00 p.m. Sunday. The center is closed Friday and Saturday.

ENGLISH WRITING and GRAMMAR

The Page One Writing & Language Center tutors for all English classes and offers assistance for writing, speaking, pronunciation, college transfer applications, and any student writing work that is related to classes or to student education at North.

The center opened for spring quarter on Monday, April 8, and will continue through Monday, June 10.

Hours for face-to-face tutoring is available from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, in Room 1634 of HSSR. Online tutoring can also be available there during those hours, depending on availability of staff.

Scheduled online tutoring is offered from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. The center is closed Saturday.

The center has also resumed group workshops online for international students and for those taking courses in English as a second language. To join them, look under Courses in Canvas and find links to “online workshops” on the page entitled, “Student Learning Center – Online Tutoring and Learning Support for Students.” On that page, sign in to the Page One Center and then click on the title of the workshop you want to attend. Seven of them are offered this quarter. Workshops started April 8 and continue until June 6.

Two of them are in person:

  • For conversational development, a “Talk Time” workshop from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Page One center, Room 1634 of the HSSR.
  • To help students with reading English, an in-person workshop on “Reading Time” (Levels 1 and 2) from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the college library

Other workshops will be online:

“Focus on Vocabulary” workshop, to help beginning English students learn more words, phrases and expressions: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday.

One “Focus on Pronunciation” workshop, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Students learn and practice pronouncing English words and phrases.

  • Three other “Talk Time” workshops, online: from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.Thursday, and from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

ONLINE ESSAY SUBMISSIONS.
If you don’t have time to talk to tutors at the college or on Zoom, you can submit your writing online and have a tutor review it and return it to you with comments. You must also include a copy of your teacher’s assignment with each submission. Tutors generally can review your work and return it with comments within 48 hours. The last day for spring-quarter online submissions will be Thursday, June 6.

WORLD LANGUAGES. Tutoring is available on weekdays for American Sign Language (ASL), Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. HOW TO GET ONLINE TUTORING

You can get online tutors several ways.

  • Zoom Tutoring, the newest and quickest way to reach North Seattle tutors. It uses the Zoom online conferencing program. First you log into the tutoring center at slc.northseattle.edu. Then you get to Zoom tutoring by logging into Canvas (https://canvas.northseattle.edu/courses/1935008) and then clicking on “Courses.” From there you click on the link titled “Student Learning Center – Online Tutoring and Learning Support for Students.” On that page you’ll find technical suggestions. There are also links to the tutoring center you want. Once you get the right center, click “Enter the tutoring room” and wait for the host to start the meeting and let you in. You’ll be placed in an online “breakout room,” where the next available tutor will join you and start the session (If you need to wait for a tutor, someone will tell you).
  • Submit a piece of writing online. Tutors will review it and return it with comments and suggestions, generally within 48 hours. This quarter you can begin submitting your work online on April 10, starting at 10:00 a.m. Check it out at

  • e-Tutoring, which connects you with tutors in a variety of locations.

    To access your e-Tutoring account:
    • Go to eTutoringonline.org
    • Click “Login Now” on the right side of the screen.
    • Select “Western e-Tutoring Consortium” from the menu on the left side of the screen.
    • Choose North Seattle College from the Select Your Institution Menu on the right side of the screen.
    • Enter two items in the “Login Here” box: Username: (your NSC Student ID Number) and a password: SUCCESS
